The 2023 Australian of the Year, Taryn Brumfitt! 
Taryn Brumfitt leads the Body Image Movement, teaching people to love and appreciate their bodies. In 2016, Taryn’s documentary Embrace tackled the serious issue of women’s body loathing and her own path to body acceptance. Her work has since reached more than 200 million people, leading her to become an internationally recognised keynote speaker whose work is recognised by UN Women.

Australia has a rich history of recognizing and celebrating the achievements of its citizens through the Australian of the Year Awards. The awards, which were first established in 1960, honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation in the fields of community, culture, and science. In the last 10 years, there have been a number of notable Australians who have been awarded the title of Australian of the Year.

In 2012, the Australian of the Year was Simon McKeon, a philanthropist, businessman, and former investment banker. McKeon was recognized for his work in the areas of charity and community service, including his role as chairman of the World Wildlife Fund and his involvement in various medical research foundations.

In 2019, the Australian of the Year was Dr. James Muecke, an opthamologist who was recognized for his work in the field of eye health and his efforts to prevent and treat blindness in developing countries.

The year 2020 was a special year as two Australians shared the title of Australian of the Year. The first was Professor Alan Finkel, a neuroscientist who was recognized for his work in the field of neuroscience, as well as his contributions to the development of new technologies and therapies. The second was Dr. Graham Farquhar, a plant physiologist who was recognized for his work in the field of climate change and his contributions to the understanding of the impacts of climate change on plants and ecosystems.

In 2021, the Australian of the Year was Dr. James Muecke, an opthamologist who was recognized for his work in the field of eye health and his efforts to prevent and treat blindness in developing countries.

In 2022 we celebrated Dr Daniel Nour, the 2022 Young Australian of the Year. Daniel is a doctor who established Street Side Medics in August 2020.
