There is no doubt that Australia is one of the most renowned tourist destinations in the world. COVID-19 has, however, severely hindered tourism in Australia in recent years. Even after COVID-19 had ended, many people found it challenging to travel rules Australia because of strict pandemic rules.
Finally, On 4 July, Australia removed all its remaining entry rules, making it easier for travellers to visit the country. For example, the travellers don’t have to furnish proof of vaccination or a negative RT-PCR test report on arrival. The scrapping of these restrictions has ended the further restrictions on travel into Australia following the pandemic.
The Australian border is open from 6 July to those who have not been vaccinated, and foreigners must apply for a limited exemption.
The Department of Home Affairs announced that tourists no longer need to fill out a Maritime Travel Declaration or Digital Passenger Declaration before entering Australia.
The Australian Border Force tweeted that COVID-19 has lifted restrictions for travellers. “COVID-19 border restrictions have changed. Travellers don’t need to complete a Digital Passenger Declaration or Maritime Travel Declaration, and all visa holders can travel to Australia without a travel exemption.“
Does this mean anyone can visit Australia?
Yes, because the government has set a rule. But certain airlines still require that passengers have a vaccine as well as a negative COVID-19 test before boarding, including –
- Virgin
- Qantas
- Jetstar
All these airlines still require passengers to show a vaccination certificate in order to fly internationally. Incoming flights still need to follow other COVID-19 restrictions rules. Plus, Children 12 and under are not allowed in the airport as a general rule.
Some airlines such as Emirates, American Airlines, Singapore Air, and Air New Zealand do not have the same requirements. Passengers on these flights will be able to board even if they have a ticket from an Australian airline.
How to fly safely and comply with COVID-19 guidelines?
