Australia’s Major Cities Experiences Coldest Start to Winter in 30 Years

Australian news

This time winter has arrived early in Australia. People have started experiencing low temperature, snow, icy winds, and rain this Sunday, i.e., 5 June 2022.

The Bureau of Meteorology expects below-average temperatures for the next week in the wake of the front.

In southern Queensland and southern NT, maximum temperatures will remain below average (for May) for the remainder of the week. In addition, there will be strong winds, making the daytime temperatures feel colder.

The month of June will be rainy in Australia for many days. There will probably be 15 to 22 days of rain this month, so make sure you carry a waterproof jacket with you.

The weather warnings include warnings to brace for freezing temperatures, showers, snow, and icy winds in Perth, New South Wales, Melbourne, Brisbane, and other places.

Brisbane

Southern Queensland has already experienced the winter. The temperature across southern and focal QLD is more than 6 degrees sub-optimal. Indeed, even there are the coldest spots alongside the reaches close to NSW with beneath 0°C – chilly circumstances. Also, individuals can expect below-average temperatures in the daytime and overnight.

New South Wales

Wind with hazardous surf conditions for SE Australia this long weekend. BOM_NSW has issued a severe weather warning for the southeast of New South Wales on Saturday due to damaging winds. Parts of the Snowy Mountains above 1200m will be at risk for blizzards from Saturday afternoon through late Sunday morning.

Perth

Western Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall for Perth in the next few weeks. Even the Southwest Capes area is under a severe thunderstorm warning.

Snow, Snow, Snow

There is good news for the ski fields after great dumps of snow throughout the end of the week with more forecast.

In terms of snow accumulation, Domensino said,  there was over a meter of snow in the previous week, and more are likely to fall in the coming days. Yet, because of the effect of environmental change and Australia’s “notoriously fickle snow season“, it is difficult to predict the remainder of the season.

Hot in the North

On the other side, there are very different climatic conditions in northern Australia i.e. 37.8C, the second-highest June temperature record in Australia. This follows Australia’s third-hottest pre-winter on record, with the public mean temperature for harvest time 1.44C above the 1961–1990 average.

However, increasing the chances of rain above average during the winter or spring months is a consequence of a negative IOD, according to the Bureau. Northern Australia is also more likely to experience warmer days and nights as a result.

The number of days that break chilly records has doubled in the past 30 years. However, there are certainly plenty of weather changes in different areas to keep an eye on upcoming weeks.
