What is Bundaberg Rum?

For those who are in Australia and for some reason doesn’t know what it is, Bundaberg Rum is a dark rum produced in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia, by the Bundaberg Distilling Company. “Bundy” is the short name of it as Australians like to shorten everything.

History of Bundaberg Rum

Bundaberg Rum originated out of a challenge that local sugar mills faced around 1885. The challenge was what to do with the waste molasses after the sugar was extracted in their mills. The molasse is usually heavy and difficult to transport so mill owners were not sure what to do with it.

Eventually after long meetings, it was decided that they will turn molasses into Bundaberg Rum in 1888

Today millions of bundaberg rum and other drinks are sold across Australia and even exported to other countries. Bundaberg rum factory tours attracts 75,000 visitors every year.
